Print Misuse (the Bads)

Incorrect Uses of the Logo

  • Do not use the standard Cornell logo in screen presentations (web, television, PowerPoint, etc.); instead, use the simplified version of the Cornell logo (called the Cornell Web Logo) that has been developed for the technical requirements of these media.
  • Do not use the simplified version of the Cornell logo (called the Cornell Web Logo) in print publications.
  • Do not mix Palatino with other fonts.
  • Do not realign logotype off center.
  • Do not change Cornell red or use alternative colors -- the logo should always be rendered in Cornell red (PMS 187), white, black, or grey.
  • Do not use the insignia as a tint.
  • Do not run type or other elements over insignia.
  • Do not place images behind insignia.
  • Do not use distracting or overpowering backgrounds.
  • Do not use filters such as drop shadows to alter or stylize the insignia or logotype.
  • Do not distort the logo -- i.e., slanting, stretching, or twisting.
  • Do not use all caps.
  • Do not use small caps.
  • Do not add letterspacing.
  • Do not tighten letterspacing.
  • Do not set Cornell logotype in another typeface.
  • Do not use two different type sizes.
  • Do not stack "Cornell University."
  • Do not center logotype.
  • Do not abbreviate.
